Abstract

We develop a theory of quantum magnetic oscillations that explains non-Onsager frequencies in equilibrium through multi-electron correlations and accounts for half-frequency oscillations in artificial crystals in GaAs two-dimensional electron gases through single-particle dynamics with impurities. The work combines analytic treatment and exact numerics for electrons in periodic potentials under magnetic field, and discusses Shubnikov-de Haas and de Haas-van Alphen oscillations.
