Abstract

We use tight-binding Bogoliubov–de Gennes simulations to study how spatially nonuniform strain controls low-energy bound states in disordered proximitized systems. For one-dimensional semiconductor nanowires and graphene nanoribbons with Rashba spin–orbit coupling, Zeeman fields, superconducting pairing, and disorder, strain reshapes the low-energy spectrum, shifts topological phase boundaries, and can convert between trivial states, partially separated Andreev bound states, and topological Majorana bound states. We also develop an analytical framework based on a position-dependent topological mass and strain-driven domain-wall dynamics to explain the crossovers.
