Abstract

The vacancy-induced topological Fano resonance in a nanoribbon made up of a hexagonal lattice with armchair sides is examined by introducing several on-site vacancies, deliberately created at regular distances, along a zigzag chain across the ribbon width. The study uses the Kane-Mele model for a quantum spin Hall nanoribbon and analytically simulates transmission and backscattering probabilities with the Lippmann-Schwinger scattering formulation, reproducing Landauer-Büttiker results. The work shows that vacancy-induced localized states can couple edge modes and create a tunable topological Fano resonance with potential sensing applications.
